Obituary

Mr. George Nathan “Billy” Carraway, 85, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at his home in Coward, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Carraway was born on December 2, 1940, in Florence County son of the late George E. Caraway and Clara Bell Locklair Caraway. He was a graduate of J.C. Lynch High School and a member of St. Paul Church of Coward. Mr. Carraway was Veteran of the Air Force and served in the Vietnam War Era. He retired from Baxters after many dedicated years of service. Billy was known as a true “piddler” — always happiest when tinkering, fixing, and keeping busy with one project or another. He had a deep love for music and found great joy in the outdoors, especially watching birds and nature. Billy was a sweet, quiet, gentle spirit and was a dedicated caregiver to his late wives, Annie Dell Spring Carraway and Mary Vonne Gaskins Carraway.

Surviving are his children, Brad (Elza) Carraway of Travelers Rest, Sheila (Ricky) Lynch of Effingham, Crystal Carraway of Coward; grandchildren, Francesca Katarina (Michael) Carraway of Easley and Jamison (Maddie) Lynch of Effingham; sister, Gladys Allen of Coward; brother, Steve Carraway of Florence; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Carraway of Coward and Shirley Carraway of Lake City, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carraway was preceded in death by brothers, Carl R. Carraway, Sr. and James W. Carraway; brother-in-law, Jesse L. Allen.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his caregivers, Brenda Kirby and Angie Lee.
