Obituary

Mr. Kent Freland Harper, 49, beloved husband of Shannon Stone Harper, passed away on February 27, 2026, at McLeod Regional Medical Center of the Pee Dee surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Harper was born on January 2, 1977, in Florence, the son of the late Joseph “Joe” Wright Harper and Mildred Altman Harper. He was the proud owner and operator of Auto Repair & Service, where he was known for his honesty, integrity, and dedication to his customers and community.

A loving and devoted family man, Mr. Harper cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Poppy,” he was lovingly called the greatest Poppy in the world. Nothing brought a brighter smile to his face than time with his beloved “Poppy’s Babies,” who were truly the light of his life.

He was a passionate golfer, Clemson fan, and a true food enthusiast who enjoyed sharing good meals and great company. Mr. Harper was also a multi-track champion racer, proudly driving car #8 and #31 at the Dillon and Florence Motor Speedway, where he built lasting friendships and a respected legacy in the racing community.

He will be remembered for his generous heart, strong work ethic, competitive spirit, and unwavering love for his family.

Surviving are wife of 7 years, Shannon Stone Harper of Scranton; son, Dawson (Whitney) Harper of Sumter; daughters, Brittany Stone (Daniel Johnson) of New Zion, Destiny Hicks of Scranton and Brooklen Hicks of Florence; grandchildren, Landon Johnson, Daisy Johnson, Riley Johnson, Zaylon Smith, Riley Welch, Bentley Harper, Maverick Flowers and Jasper Flowers; brother, Robbie Harper of Florence; sister, Tammy Harper (Stanley) Shady of Coward; father-in-law/best friend, Harold Stone of Scranton; very special friends, Traci (Bryan) Carraway of Lake City and Roger Dale (Pat) Miles of Coward; best friends, Richie (Tia) Hyman of Florence, Jeffery (Jessica) Tedder of Timmonsville, Tee (Amber) Hickson of Timmonsville, and Clint (Loretta) Stone of Timmonsville.

Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph “Joey” Wright Harper, Jr; mother-in-law, Daisy Stone and Harley Girl his dog.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Carolina Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel.  Burial will be Private.
